Rajouri, 14th. May, 2021: A joint press conference was held by Ch. Naseem Liaqat, Chairman DDC, Rajouri and members of DDC, Rajouri including Sain Abdul Rashid DDC member from Rajouri, Anita Thakur, DDC member from Kalakote, Abdul Qayoom Mir, DDC member from Thanamandi, Thakur Rameshwar Singh, DDC member from Dhangri , Dr. Manohar Singh, DDC member from Nowshera and Shamim Akhter, DDC member from Moghla.

The members expressed great concern over the closure of historic Mughal road even in the month of May. Ch. Naseem Liaqat, Chairman DDC, Rajouri said that Mughal road has historic importance which should remain opened throughout the year but the same, in essence, is not even a seasonal road as the authorities keep it closed with no reason at all. Naseem said that the Mughal road connects the Kashmir valley with the twin boarder districts of Rajouri and Poonch and in this hour of difficulty let loose of COVID-19 pandemic, it has become all the more important for the people of Rajouri and Poonch that the road is opened to give an easy access to them to reach the valley for medical facilities. In Srinagar City world-class health care facility in the shape of SKIMS, Soura is available which can be easily availed by the poor people of Rajouri Poonch, more importantly in these tough times when the said facilities are urgently required.

It has also been highlighted in the press conference that nomadic families moving towards upper reaches are also facing difficulties by the closure of Mughal Road who are being stopped on every second point by the police and army. The members also enumerated that many commercial activities of the twin districts are also dependent upon the Mughal Road which have also been badly effected.

Chairperson DDC, Naseem Liaqat said that recently a delegation of DDC members had met with Hon’ble Lt. Governor at Jammu where also this matter was taken up and it was assured by the Hon’ble LG that the road will be opened soon, however the same has not yet been opened and one fails to understand any reason which the authorities might have in keeping the road closed.

In the press conference it has also been stated by all the members that they will write a joint letter to the Hon’ble LG to look into the matter personally and direct the concerned to make provision for immediately opening the road so that the large scale demand of the public is met.(The Awam News)
